Full-Time  8 hrs a day/186 days a year

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. High school diploma or GED required

 

2. Current hands on CPR certification required. Please upload CPR certification (with hands on training) with application.

 

3. 6 months experience as a Certified Nursing Assistant, Certified Medical Assistant, EMT, LPN, or two years experience as a health assistant, aide, or equivalent experience in the medical profession which demonstrates the ability to work in a multi-task setting. License/Certification required. Must upload current CNA, CMA, LPN or other State Board of Nursing license or certification with application.

 

4. Shall have knowledge of modern office equipment and computer software applications.

 

5. Experience with physically/medically challenged children preferred.

 

6. Shall have the ability to work and communicate effectively with community, Board, students and staff members.

 

7. Bi-lingual preferred.

 

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES:

Administer first aid to injured students and provide short-term care to enhance the comfort and safety of injured or ill students.

 

Administer and record medications in accordance with district policy.  Consult  professional references or school nurse coordinator to ensure working understanding of medications that are administered.

 

Take and record vital signs.  Administer vision screenings and other screenings (hearing, scoliosis, lice checks) as required.

 

Maintain computerized listings of immunizations, chronic health conditions, daily visits and health screenings for each student.  Completes state and district reports on immunizations and vision screening as required.

 

Reports observations to the school principal, school nurse coordinator or Child Protective Services when appropriate.  Provide social services information and referrals as necessary.

 

May be required to perform specialized procedures (after proper training) such as urinary catheterization, gastric tube feedings, diabetes management, and seizure disorder management for special needs children.  May attend IEP meeting if necessary. 

 

Facilitate sending ill or injured students home or to appropriate resources.   Accurately completes accident report for any on-campus related accident.

 

Maintains clean/organized health office.  May order first aid supplies as necessary.

 

Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job shall be evaluated by the Building Principal and/or school nurse coordinator, in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
