Library Specialist
SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Principal, the Library Specialist provide a well-organized, smoothly functioning library environment in which teachers and students can take full advantage of available resources.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Presents library awareness programs and lessons on literature and library filing system.
- Reads to small groups or classes of students.
- Types and processes orders, reports, bibliographies, forms, library schedules, letters to publishers, catalog cards and the like.
- Selects, orders and receives books.
- Maintains files of catalog cards, vertical file material, publishers' catalogs and the like.
- Writes notices to homeroom teachers and parents concerning overdue books and collects fines for such books.
- Makes simple repairs on damaged books and processes more severely damaged books for repair.
- Prepares current magazines for shelving and maintains the back-number stacks.
- Performs the annual inventory of library materials and the preparation of lists of missing books and books to be discarded.
- Shelves incoming books.
- Maintains current inventory of supplies and AV equipment. Orders items for acquisition as needed and performs minor repair on machines.
- Oversees the general neatness and attractiveness of the library and its displays.
- Helps students locate reference materials and other instructional materials.
- Assists teachers in selecting reading material related to curriculum.
- Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines
- Verified completion of 60 college credit hours or passing score on ParaPro assessment.
- Two years previous experience in library management, school library experience preferred.
- Demonstrated compassion and understanding for children.
- Shall have the ability to work and communicate effectively with students, staff members and parents.

Knowledge of:
- Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases;
Skill in:
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
- Proper English, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation.
- Use of computers and technology, to include, but not limited to email, internet, Microsoft Office or equivalent software
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
A valid State Driver’s License may be required.
