SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Building Principal the Parent Liaison will work as a liaison between the parents of students, the school, district office and the community.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • The individual will act as an interpreter for families during parent teacher visits and translate written information when necessary.
  • Conduct home visits to parents of students with high absentee rates.
  • Provide outreach activities designed to acquaint parents with school standards.
  • Schedules and conducts meetings or informal discussions at school site as requested.
  • Participates in various community fairs and open house events as related.
  • Individual will provide families with translated information explaining the school system and importance of attending classes.
  • Refer families to outside service providers in the area as needed.
  • Participate in program meetings with collaborating agencies and community forums.
  • Assist and support staff in the identification and review of resource materials and development of culturally and linguistically appropriate informational and education materials as needed.
  • Coordinate parent volunteer program.
  • Assessment gathering and data entry into a computer system.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

All Crane employees are expected to maintain an extreme degree of confidentiality by following the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) for student information and the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) for employee and student information.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

  • High School Diploma or GED. (Please attach copy of HS or GED to application).
  • Experience in related position.
  • Experience with program planning and implementation.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, both in English and Spanish.
  • Word processing computer related experience.
  • Demonstration of effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of the community and a familiarity with the Yuma service provider network preferred.
  • Experience with youth and parents preferred.
Knowledge of:
  • District and department policies and procedures;
  • Pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

A valid State Driver’s License required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with public and staff.

EVALUATION

 

Performance of this job shall be evaluated by the Building Principal in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of classified personnel.
