QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Shall hold a Master’s degree in the field of Communication Disorder/Speech and Language Pathology.
  1. 400 hrs of supervised clinical practicum and 36 week postgraduate clinical fellowship.
  1. Completion of Praxis Series examination in speech/language pathology.
  1. Hold Arizona Speech Language Pathologist certification.

 

REPORTS TO:

 

Principal and Exceptional Student Services Director

 

JOB GOAL:

 

To provide diagnostic evaluation and remediation for speech/language disorders that interfere with the individual student’s ability to derive full benefit from the district’s educational program.  Supervise and evaluate all interns assigned to District.

 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Serves on Child Study Team at each school to collaborate with parents, school and outside personnel regarding speech and language concerns.  Assists the       team in generating education alternatives, modifications, referrals for     assessment or community based interventions/services.
  1. Supervise, monitor and evaluate all student interns in speech/language pathology.
  1. Conducts multi-factored speech and language assessments of children and youth   according to state and federal mandates.
  1. Generates a speech and language report following each assessment which contains all required components as defined by state and federal mandates.
  1. Reviews speech and language evaluation reports of all incoming transfer students and writes addendum to include any missing components required        by state and federal mandates.                                                                                            
  1. Participates as case manager at multi-disciplinary conference to interpret results of the speech and language evaluation, make recommendations and assist in making        educational placement.
  1. Assists in the development of the Individualized Educational Program (IEP) for all students placed in special education programs with speech and          language services.
  1. Provides in-service and other skill enhancement activities to school personnel, parents and others in the community, regarding issues of learning, development            and behavior as related to speech and language.
  1. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balanced program for oral communication and speech and language improvement.
  1. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments.
  1. Provides screening to identify speech handicapped children as the need arises.
  1. Assists in proper referrals of individuals to agencies and specialists in the community as appropriate.
  1. Provides appropriate individualized programs of therapy, goals and objectives to meet individual students’ needs and remediate existing speech disorders.
  1. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy services as well as offering suggestions for the student’s daily activities.
  1. Provides information, support and counseling to parents and families when appropriate.
  1. Keeps thorough ongoing records for the individual student receiving therapy in compliance with state and federal mandates.
  1. Designs, conducts, reports and/or utilizes the results of research of speech and language development as needed.
  1. Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

EVALUATION:

 

Performance of this position shall be evaluated by the Building Principal/Exceptional Student Services Director/qualified evaluator in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
