MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines:

  1. Minimum of 5 (five) years of teaching experience with current teaching credential.
  2. Experience and relevant training can be used as an alternate to the minimum of 5 (five) years of teaching experience.
  3. Completion of a Behavior Specialist Certificate Program preferred.
  4. Successful completion of trainings specific to working with students with mental health issues, special needs, and/or behavioral Issues
  5. Certification in Crisis Intervention and Prevention (CPI) is required within six months of hire.
  6. Oral communication skills at the level required for the position.
  7. Experience with case management, including corresponding with outside agencies, parents, and school staff.
  8. The ability to lift, assist, and appropriately physically restrain children (if needed).
KNOWLEDGE OF:
  • District and Department policies and procedures;

SKILL IN:

  • Familiarity with the organization of the District.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Proper English, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation.
  • Use of computers and technology, to include, but not limited to email, internet, Microsoft Office or equivalent software.

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

 

A valid State Driver’s License may be required.

SUMMARY:

 

      Under the direction of the Principal the Behavioral Specialist assists in conducting the daily activities and care of students.

      The Behavioral Specialist ensures confidentiality in all matters related to staff and student personal information. 

 

 

 PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. The Behavioral Specialist will collaborate with school staff to develop behavioral interventions for students with behavioral and/or social-emotional needs.
  2. Provides input to the teacher regarding students’ behavior.
  3. Assists staff members by providing guidance in the supervision of students in the classroom, during lunch, and at recess periods to maintain proper orderly conduct and works with teaching staff to resolve behavior problems.
  4. Applies varying methods of behavior management designed to maximize student learning.
  5. Possesses the ability to interact effectively with students in individual and group situations.
  6. Participates in the design and interpretation of Functional Behavior Analysis (FBA’s).
  7. Designs and implements multi-faceted behavior interventions.
  8. Ability to communicate (written and verbal) effectively with parents and professionals in various formats.
  9. Understands and works with the various support systems available in the community.
  10. Understands Special Education regulations including Least Restrictive Behavioral Interventions.
  11. Possesses excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to handle and diffuse emotionally charged situations.
  12. Maintains confidentiality regarding staff and student information.
  13. Responsible for elevating existing programs and learning concepts.
  14. Creates and implements programs outside of the school day for students and families that identify as our most at-risk student population(s).
  15. Lead effective initiatives including professional development to decrease conflicts and behavioral referrals.
  16. Creates and leads the school safety team.
  17. Make data informed decisions.
  18. Work collaboratively with community experts.
  19. Performs other job-related duties as required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with students, staff and public.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Work year, salary and benefits as established by the Board. Grant expires September 30, 2022

 

EVALUATION:

 

Performance of this job shall be evaluated by the School Administrator in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of certified personnel.
