Preschool Teaching Assistant

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Preschool Teacher, the Preschool Teaching Assistant is responsible for assisting in the overall function of the classroom and implementing educational programs designed for preschool children.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Work directly with children in their educational program with the objective to encourage personal growth and progress in all areas of development;
• Ability to manage challenging behavior in a positive manner and CLASS behavior management is used;
• As appropriate, follow child’s health care plan and meet their medical needs;
• Prepare program and classroom materials and assist in both group and individual activities with children;
• Assist in maintain a neat, clean and orderly classroom;
• Attend and participate in team meetings, and trainings as required;
• Develop, encourage and maintain effective professional working relationships, with parents, staff, administration and other agency personnel;
• Ability to learn and implement ECCER’S and CLASS techniques and classroom management;
• Assist in ensuring a safe and healthful environment for all children, adhering to all applicable laws, codes and regulations including policies and procedures of the Crane School District;
• Accepts other duties as assigned by a Teacher, Director;
• Regular attendance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

• Verified completion of two years of college or 48 semester hours (preferably 6 units in Early Childhood Education) or have two-years of early childhood experience
• Current Pediatric CPR and First Aide Certification required
• Current TB test within the last six months
• Current valid fingerprint clearance card
• Previous experience working with students
• Demonstrated compassion and understanding for children
• Experience working with confidential records preferred
• Shall have the ability to work and communicate effectively with parents, students, and staff members

Knowledge of:

• District and Department policies and procedures;
• Office procedures, methods, and equipment including computers and applicable software applications such as word processing, spreadsheets, and databases;
• Pertinent local, state and federal laws, ordinances, codes, and rules.

Skill in:

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Proper English, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation
• Use of computers and technology, to include, but not  limited  to  email, internet, Microsoft Office or equivalent software

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid State Driver’s License may be required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

The position requires the individual to meet multiple demands from several people and interact with public and staff.
