SUMMARY

This position assist the ESS Director in the provisions of Special Education services to insure compliance with state and federal mandates governing special education.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  1. Assist the Director in Special Education program evaluation activities.
  1. Assist the Director in providing technical assistance and training for Special Education personnel and classroom teachers.
  1. Write project applications for additional funding resources.
  1. Assist in the establishment of procedures for referral, evaluation, re-evaluation and placements of students with regard to special education services.
  1. Coordinate activities to involve parents of special needs children.
  1. Coordinate home instruction for homebound or hospitalized special education students.
  1. Keep informed of all legal requirements governing special education.
  1. Coordinate mandated State assessments for special education students.
  1. Conduct quarterly meetings to provide ongoing staff development for special education personnel.
  1. Assist the director in making budgetary decisions that impact special education programs and services.
  1. Coordinate with curriculum director to develop training opportunities for both special and general education personnel.
  1. Plan and present training sessions for all instructional staff.
  1. Gather data, disseminate information and facilitate plans for reteaching.
  1. Serve as mentor/coach for new teachers.
  1. Performs other related duties as required by supervisor.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

 

  1. Valid Arizona teaching certificate. 
  1. A minimum of five (5) years teaching experience in special education or minimum of three (3) years coaching or leadership experience.
  1. Administrative certification preferred.
  1. Special Education teaching certification preferred.
Knowledge of:
  • State and Federal mandates governing special education.
  • District and Department policies and procedures.
  • Budget experience.

 

Skill in:

  • Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships.
  • Providing effective assistance to assigned staff.
  • Communicating effectively verbally and in writing.

 

LICENSE REQUIREMENT

A valid State Driver’s License may be required. 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in a standard office environment.
