ESS Psychologist Intern

 

SUMMARY

Under the direction of the ESS Director and supervision of the School Psychologist, provide direct services for assigned schools;  assist in the intervention process as a member of the Child Study Team; perform individual psychological observations, evaluations and assessments of referred students; explain the results of these evaluations to parents, teachers and students, when appropriate; provide consultation to educational staff regarding behavioral issues; and perform other related work as required.

Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

  • Consult and collaborate with educational staff regarding students with emotional, behavioral, cognitive and learning difficulties, in accordance with all directives, standards, procedures, policies, laws, rules, regulations, codes and guidelines;
  • Provide diagnostic evaluations to determine learning, emotional and behavioral needs of students, concluding with a Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team meeting;
  • Process referrals, perform observations, and administer multifactor evaluations to individual students;
  • Maintains compliance with federal/state statutes and district policies and procedures;
  • Interpret, analyze, evaluate, document, track and report results of observations and assessments;
  • Assist in the intervention process of the STAT (School-wide Teacher Assistance Team);
  • Assist in the development of the Individualized Education Program (IEP) for all students receiving special education services.
  • Assist in the development of Functional Behavior Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans for students and in the implementation of recommended courses of action;
  • Support and/or facilitate Manifestation Determination Team meetings;
  • Consult with teachers, support staff, parents, serve as an integral part of the Child Study Team and attend meetings;
  • Maintain accurate records and other required data, prepare and submit reports in a timely manner;
  • Understand current issues, laws, and regulations regarding psychological services, special education, special education trends, and other issues related to children with special education needs;
  • Maintain strict student and parent confidentiality;
  • Promptly reports issues and/or concerns to the supervising School Psychologist, Principal,  or Director of Exceptional Student Services.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Education, Training, and Experience Guidelines

  • Eligible for internship in school psychology
  • Current enrollment as a graduate student in an accredited university psychology or educational psychology program leading to a school psychologist certificate

 

Knowledge of:
  • Must have knowledge of modern psychological principles, processes and techniques
  • Accepted psychological observation, evaluation and assessment instruments, procedures and applications
  • Applicable procedures, policies, rules, regulations, codes, laws and guidelines pertaining to special education;
  • Processes involved with the Evaluation Determination Report

 

 

Skills in:

  • Strong verbal and written skills; proper English usage, grammar, vocabulary, spelling and punctuation
  • Data tracking and collection, record management and report methods
  • Use of computers and technology and EIP Pro, to include, but not limited to email, internet, Microsoft Office or equivalent software

 

LICENSE AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A valid State Driver’s License may be required. Must possess a valid Fingerprint Clearance Card.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed throughout the district and in a standard office environment.
